I originally had planned to keep OurBestOnlineShop pretty relevant for people who might be reading this and wanted to kind of stay on topics that I think people would know what I am talking like Amazon and Overstock. I have a ton of smaller companies and shops online that I love going to but I really doubt many of you would have heard of them but I might bring up a few of them in the future.

So after my post on Overstock from yesterday, I was trying to come up with another specific and popular online store that most people would know about and that I have actually had experience with using but I found myself staring blankly at my computer screen. Besides the obvious monsters out there like OurBestOnlineShop’s FAVORITE, what other websites out there really compete?

I started to do my own little research and headed over for a simple google search of “online stores” and have to say, I didn’t find much. I found and went on this company called Wayfair that looked pretty legitimate and was the second result so it must be good, right?

Well even with all of my internet shopping experience, I hate to admit that I have never been to Wayfair and have no idea what it’s about. The name definitely sounds familiar but I have never been on it before. From the looks of it, it looks extremely similar to Overstock and sells similar things.

Is this another case of competition just dwindling away to only a select few?

All of the other online stores that I will mention on here will be in no particular order after my number 1 pick being Amazon even though I have kind of convinced myself that this mega online store is slowly turning into a monopoly from my previous posts.

Maybe Different is Just Good

I don’t really have any real reasons why Overstock makes the list among my favorite online shopping spots but there is something I like about it. I think it might just be something different than my go to website being Amazon pretty much any other time I am looking to buy anything at all online.

How many of you out there reading this has ever even been to this website? I really probably never would have if I didn’t spend so much time on the computer browsing different online stores as I do.

Not the Same

The more I look over this website and other companies that are trying to compete in this competitive online world the more I realize they are all just kind of dumbed down versions of Amazon. There really isn’t anything that I could find on this or other websites that I couldn’t find on Amazon and chances are the price would be lower and the shipping would be much less.

I don’t know how they get away with such low prices for shipping but I have to admit that it works.

Already Happening?

I have never really thought about the ramifications of online stores taking over and eventually turning into a potential monopoly for a select few mega corporations from my post yesterday. You can still read it here if you missed it but now I can’t stop thinking about it and I might be making a complete 180 on this whole page and my opinions on online stores and shops.

First Example

I think now that I kind of touched on Amazon and how much I love the company and the choices and conveniences it makes to my life I can talk about an example that is kind of persuading me to change my opinion.

Anyone else remember Ebay?

I remember when Ebay came out and it was huge. It kind of was the Amazon of whatever year it was that it came out. Well I checked out the stock history of the company earlier and sure enough, there looks to be a heavy decline in the past 5 years or so.

It was about this time that companies like Amazon started taking over and overtaking everyone else. Ebay was the mega corporation when it came out and now it seems as though they are passing the torch off to amazon and fading away.

Is this going to be the norm for all of the older companies that used to be huge? I feel like we had a lot more options in just over 5 years or so and I think this is only going to get worse. Am I just getting paranoid on this page again?

There is one thing that kind of scares me about OurBestOnlineShop’s choice for the number one online store out there today (go here if you missed it).

Although I like the fact that the internet is taking over for pretty much any kind of shopping you would ever need at the click of a button without having to even leave your chair, I think the bigger companies have obviously been taking the vast majority of all online business and I think we are creating a sort of funnel towards an inevitable monopoly. I really do love being lazy and never leaving my house, but I also like to have plenty of choices when it comes to where I want to give my business too and I would not be a fan if there were only 1 or 2 online shopping stores to choose from.

Probably Not the Best Long-Term

I think this really is an outcome that is going to be hard to avoid. For now, online shopping kings like Amazon are growing every day and allowing them to keep prices lower than any other options out there today.

Sure, this sounds just hunkey dorey (is that how you spell that?) for any consumer like me for now but this lowering of prices is going to make them almost impossible to compete with and when every other competitor in the same field start slowly withering away and going out of business I think we are going to see prices start rising from these mega corporations charging an economy ruined by them even more money for anything.

I may sound like a paranoid hippie towards the end of that but it kind of makes sense, right? Stick around for more paranoia!

And The Crown Goes To…

So if you read my first post you can probably guess what my first choice is for the best online shop there is. If you have not read my first article then I will allow you the next sentence to try and guess what it could possible be.

And the winner of my favorite online shop is…

 

I don’t think many people could argue any differently and the crown of the best online store goes to Amazon of course.

Who Else Would it Be?

There really is nothing that you cannot get from this online beast. Not only is everything you could ever possibly want on amazon, but it is usually way cheaper than going to any store anywhere else.

Some people really prefer actually going to the store for most of their shopping and don’t have the patience to wait a week or two for the package to arrive. I for one don’t mind at all for most things and I like actually having a nice surprise when I get home from work.

Getting a package delivered is kind of like waiting for Christmas as a kid. I would look so forward to the day for months and when the morning finally came it was an excitement that I can still remember feeling to this day.

Alright I don’t get that excited waiting for a package but you know what I mean. Let OurBestOnlineShop know what your favorites are.

Remember Actual Stores?

Remember the days when your mom would surprise you by saying that we were taking a trip to your favorite store or mall?

Well I do and here is the face that would immediately take over my face.

There was something about actually making the trip to the store and the moment you would walk in the excitement would double. I still remember the smell of EB Toys at the mall my mom would always take me to. Oh how I miss EB Toys…

Different Day and Age

Times have definitely changed DRASTICALLY over the last ten years or so and I think actual stores are eventually going to be a thing of the past and almost all of our shopping will be done online. I for one love these changes and hope that it will be in my lifetime. Call me lazy but who the hell wouldn’t love to be able to order anything and everything you need without leaving your room?

Well, it looks like this time draws near as online shopping got even crazier with Amazon implementing same day shipping for select items. I haven’t looked at the details on which items are eligible for this but regardless any items that can be ordered online and delivered the same day without costing an extra $100 is absolutely mind boggling to me.

I am going to use OurBestOnlineShop as a place where I can talk about anything and everything that has to do with online shopping and I will be sharing some of my personal favorites along the way.
